Student surveys

The project team initiated a series of online surveys in the Autumn of 2016. There were three language versions (English, Swedish and Polish) but in other respects the surveys were identical. The surveys were implemented by the four partner schools before and after running their Global STEM Challenge(s). In each school three distinct groups of pupils took part in each survey:

Challenge Creators (older pupils responsible for creating activities using the stimulus material of their Global STEM Challenge)
Challenge Champions (younger pupils who would be guided through the activities in classroom and laboratory)
Control Group (younger pupils in the same school who did not take part)

We were interested in gender differentiation in attitudes towards STEM subjects and how this might have changed after our intervention. However because our work was closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals we also asked pupils about their knowledge and attitudes towards global issues. Since technology was so involved in recording and analysing data and all the pupils understood that one of the outputs would be eBooks generated by the Challenge Creators we also asked questions about attitudes towards technology.
